New ‘Divergent’ Still

Thanks to our friends over at Divergent Examiner for this great update!

Today, Entertainment Weekly has unveiled a new image from “Divergent,” and this time it’s of Shailene Woodley literally transforming from Beatrice Prior the Abnegation faction-born transfer into Tris, the oh-so-brave “First Jumper” of the group.

As explained by director Neil Burger for the uninitiated, so to speak, “In this photo she’s already jumped off the train and onto a seven story building as part of the initiation rite for the Dauntless … The next thing they have to do is jump from the building and down through a courtyard that has a deep, black hole. It’s terrifying.”

About filming the scene, Burger said, “We’d been nervously planning it because it is dangerous and there’s a lot of people on that roof. We had to pull it off safely and also pull it off cinematically, so you have this knot in your stomach as you watch this young woman decide to do this crazy thing. We had great weather that day and I think this scene really is emblematic of the movie: It shows the energy and the rawness of the way we’re telling the story.”

Woodley, it turns out, is pretty fearless herself. “Shailene says she’s not afraid of heights but that she’s afraid of falling. This makes perfect sense to me. But she really did stand on that ledge—this is a real photo. She’s incredibly game and so adventurous. In a way, she’s very Dauntless,” he explained. Huzzah!

Notice the supporting characters involved in the image, too – Miles Teller as Peter, a hint of Zoe Kravitz as Christina, what looks to be Jai Courtney as Eric … and several others.

Not to mention, there’s her big “Stiff” costume! Does it match up with your expectations? Any other thoughts on the image?
