With the summer movie run over, I am now openly anticipating the release of a few wonderful films coming before the end of the year! Are any of these films on your must see list?
Opens Friday September 13, 2013
PG-13 for intense sequences of terror and violence and thematic elements
The Lambert family learn their struggle with the supernatural is far from over when a long-buried secret plunges them back into a terrifying world of darkness. Director James Wan reteams with screenwriter Leigh Whannell for this horror sequel starring Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Lin Shaye, and Ty Simpkins.
I am thrilled to see this film. I loved the first one so much. The plot on this one seems like a great idea and the cast and crew are incredibly talented.
Nothing Left to Fear
Opens Friday October 4, 2013 (Limited Engagement)
R for disturbing violent content and language
Legendary Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash produced and scored this malevolent independent shocker set in the small town of Stull, Kansas, where a young pastor and his devout family come face-to-face with the ultimate evil. Pastor Dan (James Tupper) and his wife Wendy (Anne Heche) thought Stull was the perfect place to raise their teenage daughter (Rebekah Brandes) and her younger sister (Jennifer Stone). Shortly after arriving in town, however, the hopeful parents realize Stull sits atop one of the Seven Gates of Hell, and that the townspeople are determined to herald in a new age of darkness. Clancy Brown and Ethan Peck co-star.
The story for this one seems like any other possession or haunting film, yet the cast seems really awesome! I love that Slash produced and scored the film. I’m hoping this will open in my city so I can review it!

After a nearly fatal accident, 21-year-old Lamb Mannerheim (Hough) is beginning to realize that the world is much bigger than her small, God-fearing Montana town. Armed with a big, fat insurance payout and a checklist of untried sins, there’s only one place for her first taste of temptation…Las Vegas! And, with the help of a few new friends (Brand and Spencer), Lamb embarks on an oddball odyssey of lost souls, broken faith and cheap cocktails…a true journey of the heart
Reasons to love this film: A) Julianne Hough, B) Russell Brand, C) Vegas. This sounds incredibly promising and such a fun story!

Kate (June Diane Raphael) and Chloe (Casey Wilson) are two childhood best friends who met when they placed dead last in their hometown beauty pageant. Now they are all grown up and living in New York City, where Chloe works as a “girl in a box” at a nightclub and Kate is a CEO….of her own one-woman egg donor “corporation”. Lost in delusion, they believe they are living large until an invitation to their hometown pageant arrives and their past comes back to haunt them. Join these two loveable losers as they take an ass backwards journey home to reclaim their crown, stopping off at a women’s separatist commune, an amateur strip club competition, and meeting their favorite reality TV star along the way.
For this film, I’m mostly just excited to see Alicia Silverstone back on the big screen and I am dying to see Vincent D’Onofrio in something other than Law and Order. The story itself doesn’t seem to have the best plot but I’ll reserve judgement until I see the film. Fingers crossed it comes to my city!
Thor: The Dark World
Opens Friday November 8, 2013
Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.
I have been pumped for this film since they announced it. Once I got to attend San Diego Comic Con this year and meet Alan Taylor (the director) and the fantastic Tom Hiddleston (Loki), I became even more excited for what this project would turn out to be. I loved the first Thor movie and I’m excited to see the continuation of the story! Plus Tom Hiddleston and Chris Hemsworth are just wonderful actors and beautiful to look at!
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
Opens Friday November 22, 2013
PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and action, some frightening images, thematic elements, a suggestive situation and language.
THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.
I LOVE The Hunger Games so much! The books are an absolute delight and the first film was so amazing! I feel as though fans have been waiting forever for the sequel to come out. Although some of the casting choices I’m still unsure of, I’m excited to see the full project come November. Next year we’ll have the final piece of the puzzle put together when Mockingjay is released (hopefully in 2014 and not 2015)!
Opens Friday November 27, 2013
When a prophecy traps a kingdom in eternal winter, Anna (voice of Kristen Bell), a fearless optimist, teams up with extreme mountain man Kristoff (voice of Jonathan Groff) and his sidekick reindeer Sven on an epic journey to find Anna’s sister Elsa (voice of Idina Menzel), the Snow Queen, and put an end to her icy spell. Encountering mystical trolls, an amazing and comedic snowman named Olaf, Everest-like conditions and magic at every turn, Anna and Kristoff battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom from destruction.
I love animated films and this one just sounds so exciting and imaginative all at one time! I love Disney and I have such high hopes for this one! I was super excited to see Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel snagged voice roles in the film. They are two wonderful actresses and I know they will bring a lot of talent to the roles they are voicing!
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
Opens Friday December 13, 2013
Bilbo, Gandalf and the Dwarves have successfully escaped the Misty Mountains and continue on their journey to get their gold back from the dragon, Smaug.
Is there much I really need to say here? I love Lord of the Rings, I love The Hobbit. The first film blew me away and I was so excited to hear there would be more than one film. I was already an obsessed fan but The Hobbit film just threw me over the edge. The work done on the sets and design is absolutely stunning and I, for one, am completely in awe of the glimpses we’ve had of Smaug! The dragon looks magnificent!
Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues
Opens Friday December 20, 2013
With the 70’s behind him, San Diego’s top rated newsman, Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell), returns to the news desk in “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.” Also back for more are Ron’s co-anchor and wife, Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate), weather man Brick Tamland (Steve Carell), man on the street Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd) and sports guy Champ Kind (David Koechner) – All of whom won’t make it easy to stay classy…while taking the nation’s first 24-hour news channel by storm.
Anchorman is one of my favorite films. Naturally, when I heard there would be a sequel I was more than thrilled! I’m excited to splash into the 80’s with Ron and the gang! I was more excited to find out that Baxter would be returning for the second film. He was one of my favorite parts of the first film and I felt the second wouldn’t be complete without his presence at least once! I can’t wait to see what crazy shenanigans the group gets into this time around and to see what Brick loves now!
